Fully interlinked and 100 % automatic

Is this the future of car workshops?

During the past months we have put a lot of effort into researching the “workshop 2030”. Which tasks can be performed by machines soon? Where will people with their experience and their human intuition still play a major role? And what does all that mean for the car design of the future? The result is a fascinating vision.

A well-known German car manufacturer commissioned cotedo to do some research. Together with a group of selected students preparing their Master thesis at the ESB Business School in Reutlingen, we examined dozens of technologies from all sorts of industries and checked them for their usability in servicing and repairing cars. While some technologies seem lightyears away, others might be well within our grasp tomorrow – if the necessary infrastructure were available. Indeed, interconnectivity and automated communication seem to be the weakest points right now.

Now it is time for round two: How can the cooperation between humans and machines be made safer? Do cars have to be designed differently to be eligible for these ideas? And how about combustion cars, which are going to show up in service for years to come, can they also be serviced automatically and to what extent? Nobody knows exactly what the future will hold but one thing is for sure: we are not going to get bored …
